Acropustulosis

  • In this case, the pustules appear on the fingers and toes. They then burst leaving bright red spots that ooze or become scaly which lead to painful nail deformities.

Palmoplantar pustular psoriasis

  • The pustules appear on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet which then gradually develop into circular brown scaly spots. The spots then peel off and reappear every few days or weeks.

Causes of pustular psoriasis

It is generally agreed that a combination of environment and genetics induce psoriasis. Here is a list of factors known to be associated with pustular psoriasis;

  1. Infections
  2. Pregnancy
  3. Phototherapy or sunlight
  4. Cholestatic jaundice (yellowish skin and eye stain caused by bile)
  5. Hypocalcemia (low calcium levels in the blood)
  6. Taking of systematic steroids then abruptly discontinuing them
